Anti SOPA Black Out By : Anonymous, Wordpress, Wikipedia

A HackTivist Group Anonymous, has announced that they too will be joining reddit’s anti-SOPA blackout on January 18. AnonymousIRC account tweeted:

On Jan 18th you will see no tweets from this account between 8a and 8p EST in support of #SOPAblackout! #J18

And it looks like Anonymous hackers are not alone in this act. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales said he was “all in favor” of the blackout, and that  it would be great if [Wikipedia] could act quickly to coordinate with Reddit. He said:

I’m all in favor of it, and I think it would be great if we could act quickly to coordinate with Reddit. I’d like to talk to our government affairs advisor to see if they agree on this as useful timing, but assuming that’s a greenlight, I think that matching what Reddit does (but in our own way of course) per the emerging consensus on how to do it, is a good idea. But that means we need to move forward quickly on a concrete proposal and vote – we don’t have the luxury of time that we usually have, in terms of negotiating with each other for weeks about what’s exactly the best possible thing to do. As I understand it, the Foundation is talking to people about how we can geolocate and guide people to their Congressperson, etc. Geoff will know about that. Our task is to decide to do it with a thumbs up / thumbs down vote.

WordPress is also joining the protest and has posted a strong call to arms on its website.

In reference to SOPA it said:

“There’s something going on in U.S. politics right now that we need to make sure you know about and understand, because it affects us all.”

GoDaddy No Longer Supports SOPA

Surprise! GoDaddy has just recanted their support of SOPA, issuing a press release and blasting out a massive mountainof tweets on the matter. This comes just hours after they were seemingly cementing their position, shrugging off the boycotts as something that had yet to cause “any impact to [their] business”.

For those who somehow missed it: after GoDaddy publicly stated their support for SOPA yesterday morning, a colossal chunk of the Internet (read: the chunk that understands how the Internet works) began to rally. There were no torches or pitchforks here; the only weapons here were wallets, all being carried off in another direction.

The mob got loud, quick: Cheezburger CEO Ben Huh publicly announced that he’d be taking his 1,000+ domains (I Can Has Cheezburger, FAIL Blog, Know Your Meme, etc.) elsewhere if GoDaddy continued to support the act. Meanwhile, thousands of Redditors pledged to transfer their domains, with December 29th set as the mass-move day.

While it’s nice that they changed their stance (publicly, at least), you’ve got to ask yourself: do you want to continue throwing money at a company blind enough to support SOPA in the first place?

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Dec. 23, 2011) — Go Daddy is no longer supporting SOPA, the “Stop Online Piracy Act” currently working its way through U.S. Congress.

“Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance, which is why Go Daddy has been working to help craft revisions to this legislation — but we can clearly do better,” Warren Adelman, Go Daddy’s newly appointed CEO, said. “It’s very important that all Internet stakeholders work together on this. Getting it right is worth the wait. Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it.”

Go Daddy and its General Counsel, Christine Jones, have worked with federal lawmakers for months to help craft revisions to legislation first introduced some three years ago. Jones has fought to express the concerns of the entire Internet community and to improve the bill by proposing changes to key defined terms, limitations on DNS filtering to ensure the integrity of the Internet, more significant consequences for frivolous claims, and specific provisions to protect free speech.

“As a company that is all about innovation, with our own technology and in support of our customers, Go Daddy is rooted in the idea of First Amendment Rights and believes 100 percent that the Internet is a key engine for our new economy,” said Adelman.

In changing its position, Go Daddy remains steadfast in its promise to support security and stability of the Internet. In an effort to eliminate any confusion about its reversal on SOPA though, Jones has removed blog postings that had outlined areas of the bill Go Daddy did support.

“Go Daddy has always fought to preserve the intellectual property rights of third parties, and will continue to do so in the future,” Jones said.

SOPA : What Is That Now ?

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), Actually  is a bill that was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011, by Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX) and a bipartisan group of 12 initial co-sponsors. The bill expands the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods.^[2] Now before the House Judiciary Committee, it builds on the similar PRO-IP Act of 2008 and the corresponding Senate bill, the Protect IP Act.


What Does Actually SOPA is ..?



The bill would authorize the U.S. Department of Justice to seek court orders against websites outside U.S. jurisdiction accused of infringing on copyrights, or of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement.After delivering a court order, the U.S. Attorney-General could require US-directed Internet service providers, ad networks, and payment processors to suspend doing business with sites found to infringe on federal criminal intellectual property laws. The Attorney-General could also bar search engines from displaying links to the sites.
The bill also establishes a two-step process for intellectual property rights holders to seek relief if they have been harmed by a site dedicated to infringement. The rights holder must first notify, in writing, related payment facilitators and ad networks of the identity of the website, who, in turn, must then forward that notification and suspend services to that identified website, unless that site provides a counter notification explaining how it is not in violation. The rights holder can then sue for limited injunctive relief against the site operator, if such a counter notification is provided, or if the payment or advertising services fail to suspend service in the absence of a counter notification.




Godaddy Supports To SOPA .

Website hosting company GoDaddy has officially voiced its support for the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) Bill in 2012, which is designed to thwart movie and music piracy on the Internet by empowering copyright holders to effectively shut down websites or online services found with infringing material. If passed, the U.S. government could blacklist any website it deems in violation of copyright, which could range from a few posts in a Web forum to a few links sent in an e-mail.

How To : Install Kloxo On a Dedicated Or A Virtual Server ?

Kloxo (formerly known as Lxadmin) is a free, opensource web hosting control panel for the Red Hat and CentOS Linux distributions. Kloxo allows the host administrators to run a combination of lighttpd or Apache with djbdns or bind, and provides a graphical interface to switch between these programs without losing data. Kloxo Enterprise can transparently move web/mail/dns from one server running Apache to another running lighttpd. It is also known as a good free alternative to cPanel hosting control panel. Prerequisites

1) A dedicated or virtual server (Xen/OpenVZ/Virtuozzo) running CentOS or Red Hat EL (versions 5.1+). At present, only 32bit versions of these operating systems are officially supported and development of a x86_64 compatible Kloxo is in progress.
2) At least 256 MB of RAM (total). Once installed, Kloxo can be tweaked to use as little as 33 MB of RAM (total - including the panel, web, mail, dns, db and OS services). Special attention must be given if your server have no swap (usually the case of OpenVZ VMs).
3) At least 2 GB of free disk space for Kloxo and related services.
4) If you partitioned your disks manually, make sure you have a large /tmp. Kloxo uses /tmp to create and store backups temporarily and it will fail if there is not enough space.




First You have to disable SELinux by editing /etc/sysconfig/selinux and changing the line to selinux=disabled. This will keep SELinux from being enabled on your server next boot.

Then you must run the following command as root to disable SELinux for the current session:

# su - root
# setenforce 0

If you are unsure this procedure worked, you can run /usr/sbin/sestatus to check its status. Failure to correctly disable SELinux will render your Kloxo install useless and an OS reload may be required to properly reinstall it.
Also, make sure the ports 7778/tcp and 7777/tcp are open in your server firewall or you won't be able to connect to Kloxo web panel when the install completes.

Installing Kloxo

Kloxo installation consists of downloading kloxo-installer.sh from download.lxcenter.org and execute it as root. They will download all the required files and install them for you. In case you are presented with a question/menu from yum/up2date, you may press <Enter> .

If you don't have MySQL server already installed, you must run:

# su - root
# yum install -y wget
# wget http://download.lxcenter.org/download/kloxo/production/kloxo-installer.sh
# sh ./kloxo-installer.sh --type=<master/slave>

If you already have MySQL installed and set a root password, you must run:

# su - root
# yum install -y wget
# wget http://download.lxcenter.org/download/kloxo/production/kloxo-installer.sh
# sh ./kloxo-installer.sh --type=<master/slave> --db-rootpassword=PASSWORD

Once kloxo is installed, you can connect to http://YOUR_SERVER_IP:7778 and you will be presented with a login screen. Login as admin with password admin and once you are in, Kloxo will explicitly force you to change the password to a secure one.

Note: If you cannot connect to the Kloxo Control Panel:
Please check: if Kloxo is running. If you are sure that Kloxo is running, the following might be the case:
- You or your provider have installed a firewall on your system (Please check your respective firewall and open the port 7777/7778 in the firewall.)
- Example: If you run the command "iptables --list" and the server has not reported that iptables doesn't exist, please try "/etc/init.d/iptables stop" and try to connect to Kloxo. If the connection is succesfull, then open port 7777/7778 in iptables.

Windows, Android or IOS? Study Shows Customers prefer Windows Tablet

It is always amazing what results come out in studies or surveys at the end. The latest example comes from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), whose study found that consumers prefer a tablet with Windows. It is therefore surprising, since the number of available Windows Tablet is currently almost negligible.

According to BCG, 42 percent of U.S consumers prefer Tablet with Windows, IOS to 27 percent, Android is in third place with 20 percent. The Forrester survey found that there were 46 percent for Windows, 16 percent and 9 percent for IOS and Android.

This in turn would coincide with the statement of the researcher, Forrester surveyed by Sarah Rotman Epps Kafka: "When we ask consumers, it is very clear that Windows is still a very popular brand."

Anyway: the numbers of the study show that Microsoft in the Tablet market has a good chance, if they use it with Windows-7 like the Samsung Series 7 Slate is questionable, however, can result in pricing. With Windows 8 this could change.
